v1.5 Stable
released this
2026-09-26 03:04:31 -07:00 | 278 commits to main since this releaseFeatures
Add support for colorful environment variables! The following environment variables let you customize the appearance of pages:
TLDR_COLOR_NAME=blue
TLDR_COLOR_DESCRIPTION=white
TLDR_COLOR_EXAMPLE=green
TLDR_COLOR_COMMAND=red
TLDR_COLOR_PARAMETER=blueYou can set these env's in your .bashrc file (or relevant alternative) so they'll be set for every query you make. Run
cldr --colorsto see the list of colors you can use with these (more may be added in the future).Bug fixes
Mostly just visual bugs, but a couple of optimizations were included as well.
The previously mentioned v1.4.1 update has been included as part of this update instead. The code base was clean up and commented, leading to a (hopefully) easier time maintaining it.Downloads

v1.4 Stable
released this
2026-09-25 23:10:53 -07:00 | 297 commits to main since this releaseFeatures
Added language priority fallback. You can now specify the LANGUGE=xx:xx:xx environment variable to specify the order of languages you'd like to search, for example:
LANGUAGE=fr:es cldr adbwill try to search foradbthrough the french database, then the spanish database, and finally, it will always try the english database as a last resort.Notes now support the full formatting of normal pages, use
cldr --help-noteto learn more about how to write notes.Bug fixes
Previously, there were literally hundreds of memory leaks, most of them weren't very serious, only leaking a couple of bytes, but a few (mostly in the list and remove functionality) leaked a few kilobytes. With a program as small as this, even those larger leaks wouldn't really cause anything bad to happen, however, I am committed to making high quality code, and so I fixed every single memory leak, even those that were inconsequential.
There will likely be a v1.4.1 tomorrow (or at least soon) which cleans up some of the code base, as it's quite messy now. However, there should be no functional difference between v1.4 and v1.4.1, but theoretically v1.4.1 will have better performance.

v1.3.1 Stable
released this
2026-09-24 15:18:37 -07:00 | 306 commits to main since this releaseImprovement
cldr will now check if the notes file already exists for a query. When you try to write a note, and it exists, cldr will print the existing note before asking the user if they'd like to overwrite the file, cancel, or append the new note to the end of the file.

v1.3 Stable
released this
2026-09-24 04:11:50 -07:00 | 310 commits to main since this releaseNew Notes Feature:
Added notes! You can now write your own custom notes for commands, these notes will then be printed automatically when you get the tldr page for your query. These are stored in an adjacent directory to the normal pages database, and will persist through database updates (or database deletion). When writing a note, you can enter "\n" to insert a new line. Notes are NOT displayed when printing in plain text.
You can now use the following args/parameters:
-n|--note "message wrapped in quotes" | This writes a new note about your query
--list-notes | This will list all the notes that you have created, just like -l or --list
--read-note | Manually read ONLY the note about your query
--remove-note | Remove the note about your querySubtle Improvements
When a parameter is used incorrectly, cldr will now tell you what is wrong and how to fix it.
For example, running
cldr ffmpeg --platformwill print the following:Error: Missing argument after --platform Current/Default arg for --platform is: linux Usage for --platform: cldr --platform platform-choice Available platforms: [common, linux, freebsd, netbsd, openbsd, osx, sunos, windows, and android]Or, running
./build/cldr ffmpeg --notewill print:Error: Missing argument after --note Usage for --note: ./build/cldr --note "message wrapped in quotes" query You can also type \n to make a new lineA few minor bug fixes and optimizations as well

v1.2.2 Stable
released this
2026-09-23 18:01:14 -07:00 | 316 commits to main since this releaseRemoved a possibly unnecessary/dangerous windows compatibility option. If the --update or --delete parameters no longer work on windows, follow the directions in the comment inside removeDir.c , then build it again. This has not been tested because I do NOT have access to a windows machine.

v1.2 Stable
released this
2026-09-22 23:55:50 -07:00 | 341 commits to main since this releaseRemoved almost all dependency on shell commands, leaving only [wget|curl] and unzip, which most likely can be left as is.
Entirely rewrote the list and search functionality, adding a beautiful interface instead of clunky tree or ls -R.
